Commedia Workshop For Experienced Players
Commedia Workshop For Experienced Players
led by Annie Ryan, artistic director of The Corn Exchange
Annie Ryan invites you to come play, explore and stretch the boundaries and possibilities of the style in a two-week intensive workshop looking at the principles of ensemble physical theatre practice.
Venue: TEAM Rehearsal Space, 4 Marlborough Place, Dublin 1
Date: Wednesday 24 June to Friday 3 July
Cost: €200*
Note to Players:
Rather than throwing you into the deep end straight away, I’d like to go deeper into finding the process of this form. I’m interested less in teaching a course in Commedia as such, but instead to hone a practice as a group that challenges the technique and ourselves as performers. We will also investigate various methodologies and exercises to feed into our practice including physical, vocal and ensemble work including Anne Bogart and SITI Company’s Viewpoints, Joyce and Byrne Piven’s Theatre Games and Story Theatre, various exercises from Le Coq, Complicité, Body Weather Laboratory and Fabulous Beast, who’s recent workshop was an inspiration. (Hence the 8am start.)
The point here is based on a belief in the integrity of rigorous on-going physical training and looking for ways of how we can integrate that into our individual work as actors in Irish Theatre.
x
Annie

The Corn Exchange and Randolf SD are delighted to announce a new collaborative hosting project for 2009.
Áine Beamish of The Corn Exchange will be taking over from Róise Goan, (recently appointed Director, Dublin Fringe Festival) as Producer of Randolf SD.
The Corn Exchange Theatre Co. will host Randolf SD | The Company providing mentorship, facilities and services in-kind including payroll, administration, financial management, meeting room and internet facilities.
The Corn Exchange are delighted to support an exciting company such as Randolf SD, and see this project as a natural extension of their long held commitment to collaboration and exchange on every level. The hosting gives artistic and practical advantages to both companies at this stage in their development while allowing each of them to maintain their distinct identities.
Wayne Jordan Artistic Director of Randolf SD remarked
I’ve been influenced by The Corn Exchange since my early days as a student and Annie Ryan has been a supporter and friend since I first started directing. This is a very exciting (albeit uncertain) time for Randolf SD after our successes in 08 and we find ourselves brimming with energy and ideas. So we are delighted to enter into this new association with The Corn Exchange and to welcome Áine Beamish to our team.
